Olive Garden-Allfredo Gorgonzola

It's been a while since we visited the Olive Garden in Sugar Land.  The thought of the endless bread stick and zupa tuscana compelled us to give it another try. As always, I ordered Alfredo Gorgonzola, a favorite, with it's sticky Alfredo sauce, the bitter taste of cheese and the soft and succulent steak.  That was the image in my mind and my tongue.

The reality was a dismal. Although the pasta and sauce were the same, yet the steak was a bit chunky...and hard to bit. I know I ordered medium well...not well done. I guess, I got the well done. I was munching a "bubble gum" and the image and feeling of savoring the "soft and succulent" steak was nowhere to be found.

Lessons learned? Make sure to let the server repeat your order. Else, you'll end up paying for something that you don't want to,.

Get it right next time. It will be a long time for us to visit another Olive Garden.

Old Restaurant...Just fine

We had our dinner at Joe's Crab House. This is our nth time, and in this case, you must probably know the menu.
I tried the broiled platter consists of tilapia, shirm, crab meat and buttered shrimp with rice as side dish.
Although they taste ordinary, but it was my first time to try that combination. You have to season the tilapia with salt and pepper, and a little bit of vinegar. The shrimps are good but not too classy.
The crab meat is real, as the taste would tell, but the buttered shrimp seemed lacked with sting.
Probably, we'll try the nearby restaurant next time.
The servers though were so kind to seat us in a cooler place on time.

HEB, Here were trying to be Better


There was a new supermarket plus that just opened. As expected a lot of people came to see the place, and to partake in the freebies. We were there and indeed, it was much more different from the traditional Walmart and Target. In my own surmise, they showcase more on food than on electronics.

The inventory of items was far from ordinary. Call me, ignorant but that was the first time I saw different colors of cauliflower and string beans. The produce is costumer friendly. You can not only weight the produce you buy but you can see how much it cost by printing its barcode. No hassle, indeed.

The one I like most is their kiosk of japanese food (although the one who sells is a Korean family) There is almost a food for anybody. And if you want to experiment with your taste and diet, this is the supermarket for you.

The seafood section is amazing too. I was able to sample their blue crabs which to my surprise i was able to find female crabs as oppose to the one being sold by Well Farm.

There was only one letdown. When my wife, Jaz, bought a fruit cake, the crust seemed too hard to break. We were expecting a crunchy yet soft crust. We almost throw it to the wastebasket.

Anyhow, with the pharmacy and gasoline station that sells far more lower than other stations, HEB was a treat. Walmart, Target, Randalls, and Kroger will definitely reinvent themselves to let their loyal customers stay with them.

Goode Company, Goode BBQ


We had a good chance to dine at Goode Company BBQue Grill at Kirby. Feeling that we might not be able to get a good seat, I called ahead of time. The waitstaff on the other line told me to come early before 7:30 p.m. Thanks goodness that Houston was not into BBQ tonight. We were not only able to get a good parking spot, but we got a good table inside.

The interior of the restaurant is just small. There were only less than six tables inside. The place is adorned by lots of memorabila including a big head of a bison. There were two big horns mounted in the ceiling which I presummable from big oxen.

Patrons were willing enough to grab a spot in a picnic table style outside of the restaurant. You order the food by lining, just like in an old carenderia.

We ordered sweet water duck and spicy pork. The duck proved to be palatable and phenomenal but I am not impressed with the spicy pork (it comes in slices). Regretting for not getting the pork ribs instead, I lined again for a to go.

Hoping to let the sauce sink in until tomorrow, i denied myself as to what does it taste by letting the ribs rest until my next big meal.

Since Houston is a microcosm of America being a melting pot, there are a lot of cuisine and dishes to be explored. Right now, I am into BBQ and Tex-Mex food.

Next, we will sample the famous Papasitos.
